The
Blue Mountains offer an excellent natural habitats that has been Sydney's
wilderness getaway for years. It has magnificent scenery, excellent bushwalks,
gum trees, gorges, outdoor activities, great eating and enough tourism
infrastructure to keep you as comfy or as rugged as you like.
Driving into the blue Mountains offers tantalising glimpses of the stunning scenery, the only real way to see the place to get out of your car and go walking. There are several walks ranging from short to lasting several days |

'The sounds in the forest are amazing, making you feel like you are in a wildlife programme' 'The blue haze of the blue mountains' The blue Mountains and named after the blue haze caused by an ultrafine oily mist given off by the eucalyptus. The amazing thing I've found with the sounds leaving the visitors centre following a bush walk could almost be in the middle of tropical jungle. There are eucalyptus trees as far as the eye can see, listening to the sounds of birds calling you could almost be in a David Attenborough programmes. 'The three sisters at sunset'

'Even the trees seem tropical compared to home that is' Historically the blue Mountains, part of the Great dividing range, formed an impenetrable barrier to the European expansion from Sydney. There was a bizarre belief amongst convicts that beyond the blue Mountains lay China and freedom. It took another 25 years before the first successful crossing of the blue Mountains. The foothills of the blue Mountains of 65 km inland from Sydney and rise
over 3000 feet, there is usually quite a difference in climate between
the blue Mountain and Sydney. People often come from Sydney to cool down
in the hot summer weather.
'Typical Australian bush' 'The colour of the wildlife is quite something, just watch for the creepy crawlies' 'Sunset over the blue mountains' |
